Body of Airman Killed in Osprey Crash Returns to Hometown
The U.S. military grounds all Osprey aircraft following the fatal accident during a training mission.
- Air Force Staff Sgt. Jacob 'Jake' Galliher's body returned to his hometown of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, after he was killed in a CV-22 Osprey crash off the coast of Japan last month.
- Galliher's remains were transported in a procession from Westover Air Reserve Base to a funeral home in Pittsfield, with members of the police, fire departments, and the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office escorting his body.
- Galliher, a married father of two, was one of eight service members killed in the crash during a training mission on November 29.
- The U.S. military grounded all of its Osprey V-22 aircraft after a preliminary investigation indicated a material failure caused the crash, not a mistake by the crew.
- The crash has raised new questions about the safety of the Osprey aircraft, which has been involved in multiple fatal accidents since it became operational in 2007.
