Body of 15-Year-Old Recovered From Tamworth’s Peel River After Overnight Search

Police say the teenager tried to retrieve a drifting kayak in deep, fast-flowing water.

A body has been found in the search for a 15-year-old boy who disappeared during a swim in the Peel River.

Overview

  • The body was found about 8:30am Tuesday near the Paradise Bridge stretch of the Peel River in Tamworth.
  • The 15-year-old disappeared at dusk on Monday after entering the water, and his family reported him missing about 7:30pm.
  • Local police led a multi-agency operation with SES volunteers and NSW Ambulance, and the riverbank was cordoned off during the search.
  • Police said the boy and his family had arrived from Myanmar about six weeks ago and were beginning to settle in the area.
