Overview
- An emergency call was received at 9.55pm on Aug 30 after a boy was seen floating in the sea off East Coast Park.
- Singapore Civil Defence Force officers brought him ashore and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
- The body was identified on Aug 31 by next-of-kin as Muhammad Hairil Effendi, who had been the subject of a police appeal.
- Hairil was reported missing on Aug 29 and was last seen near Block 29 Marine Crescent at about 11.05am, with neighbour CCTV showing him leaving his Marine Terrace home.
- Police urged the public not to share images or videos of the deceased as relatives and search volunteers gathered at the park to grieve.
