Overview

• Emergency crews were called to a Hilltop Road property at Avalon Beach shortly after 1am Friday as the home burned.
• Firefighters said the structure was fully alight on arrival, internal entry was impossible due to the steep site and collapse, and the blaze was brought under control in about an hour.
• Following an extensive search, police located a body on Saturday believed to be the missing 71-year-old occupant, with formal identification yet to occur.
• A crime scene has been established as Fire and Rescue NSW assists investigators, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
• FRNSW’s Urban Search and Rescue stabilised the site, with an aerial ladder platform and drones used for assessments and searches.
