Overview

• A body was discovered near Warren Hill on the evening of July 8 and is believed to be Sgt Alex Cairnie, with police reporting no suspicious circumstances.
• Cairnie, a 30-year-old sergeant in the Queen’s Royal Hussars from Perham Down, was last seen leaving Tidworth Camp around noon on July 6.
• CCTV footage recorded by Wiltshire Police captured Cairnie walking around the Tesco in Tidworth at approximately 11 am on the day he vanished.
• Sgt Gareth Brooks issued a direct appeal urging Cairnie to call 101 to confirm his welfare and the public was asked to report any sightings via 999, quoting log number 214.
• Hundreds of military personnel and volunteers, including Wiltshire Search and Rescue and DS Rescue and Recovery, joined forces with police dogs and thermal-imaging drones to scour woodlands and open terrain.
