Bodoland Council Voting Set for Monday as Polling Teams Deploy

A three-way race takes shape after the BJP opted to run separately from the ruling UPPL.

Overview

  • Campaigning ended on September 20, and a 48-hour silence period is in effect across the Bodoland Territorial Region.
  • Polling will be held on September 22 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 3,359 stations for 2,658,153 voters across five districts, with counting on September 26.
  • A total of 316 candidates are contesting 40 seats, and UPPL and BJP candidates will face each other in 30 constituencies as the party contests without a pre-poll alliance.
  • In Kokrajhar, officials dispatched nearly 4,500 polling personnel to 942 stations serving 700,951 registered voters, with 100 candidates across 12 constituencies.
  • The campaign was largely calm except for a reported September 9 clash in Baukhungri, and marquee battles include UPPL chief Pramod Boro in Dotma and Goibari and BPF chief Hagrama Basumatary against Kampa Borgoyari in Debargaon and Chirang Duars.
