Overview

• Polling runs from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Assam State Election Commission said.
• A total of 316 candidates are contesting 40 seats, with the UPPL, BPF and BJP as the principal contenders and the BJP not in a pre-poll alliance.
• About 26,58,153 electors are eligible to vote, including 13,34,600 women, and 187 polling stations will be managed by female personnel.
• Polling teams and security moved out Sunday to their stations, including nearly 4,500 polling personnel dispatched across 942 booths in Kokrajhar.
• Campaigning ended Saturday under the 48-hour silence period; repolling, if required, is slated for September 24 and counting is scheduled for September 26, with the campaign reported largely peaceful except for a September 9 clash in Baukhungri.
