Bodoland Council Launches Integrated Drought Relief Initiative for Five Districts

Five percent of the agriculture budget has been set aside for a dedicated disaster fund alongside the deployment of monitoring cells in every ADO circle office.

Overview

  • The BTC chief Pramod Boro unveiled the “Vibrant BTR, Vibrant Agriculture — From Mission to Action” programme on August 4 to coordinate relief efforts across Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Tamulpur, and Udalguri districts.
  • Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, and Tamulpur are under severe drought stress while Udalguri faces moderate conditions that imperil rice production and farmer livelihoods.
  • Five percent of the agriculture budget has been allocated to a new disaster management fund targeting droughts, floods, locust invasions, and pest outbreaks.
  • Special disaster monitoring cells will be established in every Agriculture Development Officer circle office to facilitate field‐level assessments and rapid aid distribution.
  • Departments of Agriculture, Irrigation, Soil Conservation, and Water Resources will collaborate to create model climate-resilient VCDC units in each circle.
