Overview

  • Tim and Esther Keiderling, of Ulster Park, New York, disappeared Sunday after setting out from Abol Campground to climb the strenuous Abol Trail.
  • Park authorities launched an all-out search Monday involving Maine Game Wardens, Baxter State Park rangers, K9 teams and National Guard helicopters after finding their vehicle.
  • Tim’s body was located near the mountain’s summit on Tuesday and Esther’s was discovered Wednesday roughly 1,000 feet away off the Tablelands section.
  • Freezing rain, fog and snow on the day of their hike created hazardous conditions that challenged both the pair and search teams.
  • Officials say there are no signs of foul play and investigators await autopsy findings to explain why the bodies were found apart.
