Overview
- Bodo, a two-year-old stork ringed at Lake Constance, ousted Mogelina’s long-time mate at a 30-meter-high chimney nest in late March
- Of four eggs laid by the new pair only two chicks survived the hatching period and were noted as undernourished compared with others
- Members of the Jungfeuerwehr Oschatz used a specialized cage and ladder to remove the chicks for ringing and named them Hannah and Antonio
- The original male stork has not been sighted since his eviction and remains unlocated by conservationists
- Experts warn that extensive monocultures and hardened soils have hampered food availability and threaten future breeding success
