Bochum and Pirmasens Utilities Cut Power and Gas Prices for 2026

Falling wholesale prices alongside federal relief on grid charges enable the reductions.

Overview

  • Stadtwerke Bochum will lower the electricity working price by 2.75 ct/kWh to 36.07 ct/kWh gross from January 1, 2026, while increasing the monthly basic charge by €1.98, resulting in net savings for most customers.
  • Bochum projects example savings of about 3.4% at 2,000 kWh annual usage and about 5.5% at 5,000 kWh, according to managing director Frank Thiel.
  • Bochum will fully pass through the removal of the gas storage levy of 0.289 ct/kWh (net) from January 1, 2026, and has set up a customer hotline at 0234 960 3636 for questions.
  • Stadtwerke Pirmasens is reducing electricity prices by roughly 7% in basic supply and about 9% in special contracts, and cutting gas prices by about 4% and 6% respectively, with gas reductions starting January 1.
  • Utilities cite lower wholesale costs, federal support for transmission operators, and the end of the gas storage levy as drivers, while warning that statutory charges and long-term energy-transition investments will continue to influence prices.
