Boca Launches Preparatory Phase for $100M La Bombonera Expansion

Preparatory works have begun to upgrade seating, amenities, access ahead of a planned capacity boost

Overview

  • President Juan Román Riquelme has activated a multi-phase plan to grow La Bombonera’s capacity from 56,000 to as many as 83,000 spectators.
  • Complementary works under way include renovation of the delegation entrance gate, installation of a Brandsen Street LED screen, and construction of 16 new elevators.
  • The main demolition and reconstruction phase is slated to start imminently and is expected to take three to six months to complete.
  • The estimated $100 million project will be financed through club revenues and the sale of new palcos, with stadium naming rights lined up as a backup.
  • Boca Juniors will temporarily relocate home matches to Vélez Sarsfield, Estadio Único de La Plata or San Lorenzo during the stadium overhaul.
