- The NHL Players’ Association announced his sudden passing on Sept. 13 with no cause of death released.
- Goodenow led the union from 1992 to 2005, steering players through a 1992 strike, the 1994–95 lockout, and the 2004–05 shutdown that canceled the entire season.
