Overview
- A wooden boat that capsized during a Durga idol immersion in the Kotri Canal on Tuesday left four people missing after three occupants who could swim reached shore and rescue operations began.
- Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar, the district collector and Kota’s police superintendent reached the site and said the immersion took place at a prohibited location in violation of orders.
- In Gonda district, separate immersion incidents on Tuesday resulted in one confirmed death (Sumit Prajapati), two youths reported missing after a Tedhi river rescue, and a local rescuer, Tularam Shukla, also reported missing after entering deep water.
- State Disaster Response Force personnel, municipal corporation divers, civil defence teams and local police have been deployed, and authorities have temporarily stopped the canal flow to aid searches.
- Officials warned that unauthorized immersion points lack lifesaving equipment and trained divers, and said investigations and recovery work will determine accountability and shape tighter enforcement at future festivals.
