Bo Nix Disputes Sean Payton’s ‘Predisposed’ Ankle Label, Sets Faster Return Target

Nix counters the team’s post-surgery characterization with his own 4–6 week outlook.

Overview

  • Nix fractured a bone in his right ankle late in Denver’s Divisional Round win over the Bills and underwent surgery in Birmingham performed by Dr. Norman E. Waldrop III.
  • Sean Payton said the operating surgeon identified a preexisting condition that made the fracture inevitable, and GM George Paton projected a three- to four-month recovery targeting May OTAs.
  • Speaking Wednesday, Nix called it a “typical bone break,” said there was “nothing predisposed,” and estimated a four- to six-week return to training.
  • Nix also objected to Payton publicly discussing his prior ankle surgeries, saying the coach should not have shared those details.
  • With Nix out, Jarrett Stidham started the 10–7 AFC Championship loss to the Patriots; Payton said Nix’s rehab will progress from a scooter to crutches to a boot as offseason plans proceed.
