BNB Chain Launches Jenner Hardfork on Testnet With 5% Payment Lane

The testnet upgrade reserves block gas for qualifying transfers to improve payment inclusion with mainnet timing and CAS20 availability still to be announced.

Overview

  • BNB Chain, which activated Jenner on BSC testnet on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026, added Payment Lane that by default reserves 5% of each block’s gas for eligible payments and allows governance to raise that reserve to a 10% cap.
  • Only two transaction types qualify for the reserved lane: native BNB transfers of nonzero value to accounts without deployed code and direct calls to payment contracts on a governance-approved list using transaction types 0x00, 0x01, or 0x02.
  • Governance will manage the approved payment-contract list and the reserved percentage using the parent block’s state so changes cannot reclassify transactions inside the block being built.
  • Block builders must allocate the reserved capacity when assembling blocks and validators must reject blocks that break the rule, with violations handled through the builder-revocation process established under BEP-675.
  • Jenner also introduces millisecond block timestamps for smart contracts and initial CAS20 support on testnet, and the upgrade follows stronger Q3 network activity that prompted efforts to protect payment inclusion ahead of a planned but not yet dated mainnet rollout.
