Overview
- BMW and Rimac, which announced the joint battery program Tuesday, will unveil the updated i7 with the new pack on April 22 at Auto China in Beijing.
- The system pairs BMW’s 4695 cylindrical cells with the existing Gen5 module layout, delivering about 20% higher volumetric energy density for longer range and quicker charging.
- Rimac will assemble finished packs at its Zagreb campus and ship them to BMW’s Dingolfing plant, with two production lines and about 15,000 square meters dedicated to the program.
- Neither company has released the pack’s capacity, certified range, or peak charging rate, with BMW only saying the i7 will charge much faster and full specs due at the Beijing reveal.
- Both firms call the design scalable across future BMW EVs, and outlets suggest the 2027 i5 facelift as a likely next adopter, which remains unconfirmed.
