Overview
- BMW confirms series production of the iX3 begins in October at its new factory in Debrecen, Hungary.
- The EV-only site, built for over €2 billion, was digitally planned and validated via a virtual start in March 2023 with highly automated body and press operations and fully electric intralogistics.
- Debrecen will assemble sixth‑generation high‑voltage battery packs on site, enabling an ~800‑volt iX3 with up to about 805 km WLTP range and roughly 400 kW DC charging with 10–80% in around 20 minutes.
- The launch specification is the iX3 50 xDrive with 469 PS and series‑integrated bidirectional charging, with a BMW and E.ON V2G offer reported to pay up to €720 per year to participating customers.
- BMW details sustainability measures including a paint shop powered by renewable electricity, a 50‑hectare PV array and 130 MWh thermal storage that together can cut site emissions by up to 12,000 tonnes CO2e per year, as market reports note rising dealer discounts on the larger iX.
