BMW Sets Aggressive 2026 India Plan With 10 Launches, Three New EVs

The push seeks to lift electric models to roughly a quarter of BMW’s India sales in 2026.

Overview

  • BMW capped 2025 with a record 18,001 cars sold as EV deliveries jumped 200% to 3,753 units, taking electrics to 21% of sales with the locally assembled iX1 leading the premium EV segment.
  • The company will add three new electric models within a 27‑product rollout of launches and upgrades, with the CEO estimating about 60% share of India’s luxury EV market.
  • BMW is lobbying to retain the 5% GST on EVs, warning a higher rate would curb adoption in a market where EVs are roughly 4% of passenger vehicle sales and about 10% in luxury.
  • To sharpen pricing, BMW plans to raise local content from roughly 50% for India-assembled cars and is exploring local sourcing of EV motors after success with iX1 assembly.
  • Charging and retail investments include 12 highway fast chargers, 52 dealer units and about Rs 400 crore for Retail.next, with 97 touchpoints in 40 cities and 19 additional outlets planned in 2026.
