BMW Sales Fall as Regional Split Trims Half-Year Volumes

A steep drop in China deliveries has cut group volumes, posing risks to profit margins and to BMW's near-term recovery.

Overview

  • BMW reported 1.156 million passenger-car deliveries in the first half of 2026, a 4.2% decline from a year earlier driven mainly by weaker China sales.
  • China volumes fell roughly 20.4% in H1 and about 30% in Q2, which erased gains made in Europe and the United States and left the group with lower overall sales.
  • Battery-electric vehicle (BEV) deliveries totaled 204,295 in H1 2026, down 7.4% year‑on‑year, but BEV shipments rebounded in Q2 to 116,807 units after the start of BMW iX3 deliveries in Europe.
  • Electrified models (BEV plus plug‑in hybrids) made up 25.5% of BMW's H1 sales and BEVs alone were 17.6% of sales, giving BMW a higher electric share than rival German premium firms.
  • MINI grew 11.7% in H1 on strong demand for full‑electric models, and BMW's limited regional BEV breakdowns create uncertainty about where BEV shortfalls and margin pressure will persist in the second half.
