BMW Rolls Out Summer 2025 Upgrades Featuring Silicon Carbide EV Boost, Digital Key and M2 CS

By boosting electric range with silicon carbide power electronics, BMW is strengthening vehicle access through a new digital key rollout alongside in-car connectivity upgrades.

Overview

  • Starting July, the i4 eDrive35 and eDrive40 models adopt silicon carbide semiconductors in their inverters to cut energy use by about 4.5 percent and add up to 22 km of range.
  • From July, BMW will offer the fully electric i4 M60 xDrive as a new top trim with 442 kW (601 PS), a 433 km WLTP range and a 0–100 km/h sprint in 3.7 seconds.
  • A new BMW Digital Key will debut on 1 Series, 2 Series Gran Coupé, 2 Series Active Tourer, X1, X2, 5 Series, M5 and 7 Series in July before expanding to X5, X6, X7 and XM in August, enabling smartphone unlocking on up to 18 devices.
  • The limited-edition BMW M2 CS, due in late summer, pairs a 530 PS six-cylinder engine with a roughly 30 kg weight reduction and an 8 mm-lower chassis for a 0–100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds.
  • Additional summer enhancements include new exterior and interior customization for X1, X2 and 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW iDrive 9 updates—such as a second voice for the Intelligent Personal Assistant and Amazon Alexa integration—and an enhanced Parking Assistant Plus that recognizes parking-bay markings.
