- The recall covers 145,102 U.S. vehicles posted Sept. 25 on NHTSA, including 2019–2020 X5 and X7, 2020 X6 and 340i, 2020–2025 840i, and 2020–2022 740Li.
- BMW says the starter may fail to start properly and overheat, potentially igniting nearby engine protection material, with no accidents or injuries reported.
- Dealers will install a differently designed starter at no cost, and owners who previously paid for related repairs may qualify for reimbursement.
- BMW notified dealers on Sept. 25, and owner notification letters plus VIN lookup on NHTSA.gov are scheduled for Nov. 17.
