BMW Previews China-Tuned iX3 Long Wheelbase With 900-Km CLTC Range Ahead of April Beijing Debut

The launch underscores BMW’s push to localize EV hardware plus software for Chinese buyers.

Overview

  • The stretched variant adds 108 mm to reach a 3,005 mm wheelbase, pairing a China-specific chassis tune with a focus on rear-seat comfort.
  • An 800-volt architecture with sixth‑generation eDrive and cylindrical cells targets over 900 km CLTC range, up to 400 kW DC charging, roughly 400 km added in about 10 minutes, and 10–80% in around 21 minutes, with V2L capability.
  • Panoramic iDrive on Operating System X features roughly 70% locally developed software plus integrations such as Amap navigation, Alibaba/DeepSeek voice models, Huawei Digital Key/HiCar/HarmonyOS-based app, and Momenta-developed ADAS.
  • The model will debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2026, go on sale in China in the second half of 2026, and expand to selected markets including India, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia; validation testing is underway.
  • Industry reports cite very high iX3 demand and a possible earlier third shift at BMW’s Debrecen plant to boost output, though BMW has only confirmed strong orders, and final LWB power output figures remain undisclosed.
