Police have opened an investigation into the cause.

Overview

  • The SUV left the roadway in a left-hand curve while driving uphill on a municipal road in Rohrberg at about 10:40 a.m.
  • The vehicle tumbled roughly 100 meters down a steep embankment and came to rest on its roof in a frozen stream bed reported as the Haslachbach.
  • All four occupants managed to exit the car, and a 24-year-old woman was airlifted to Bezirkskrankenhaus Schwaz with presumably serious injuries.
  • Three men, including the 53-year-old driver, were taken by ambulance to the same hospital with injuries of unspecified severity.
  • A rescue lasting about two and a half hours involved a helicopter, ambulance crews, the Zell am Ziller volunteer fire brigade and police, and the car was declared a total loss and towed.
