Overview
- BMW India opened pre-launch bookings on Monday, August 10, allowing customers to reserve the X1 Long Wheelbase through authorised dealers and the company website ahead of an August 21 market debut.
- BMW confirmed the X1 LWB will be built at BMW Group Plant Chennai, which supports local assembly and helps the car sit below other long-wheelbase combustion models on price and positioning.
- The stretched X1 measures 4,616 mm long with a 2,802 mm wheelbase, giving roughly 110 mm more wheelbase, a raised rear bench and wider rear headrests to increase rear legroom and comfort, and a boot capacity of 540 litres.
- BMW has not released final India-spec powertrains, variant line-up or pricing, and reports that China-spec figures — such as a 2.0-litre turbo petrol with about 204 hp — are indicative but unconfirmed for the Indian market.
- The launch extends a wider long-wheelbase strategy that includes the iX1 LWB EV and follows strong Indian demand for stretched models in H1 2026, a trend that could shift buyer choices toward rear-seat comfort in the premium compact SUV segment.
