BMW iX3 and Mercedes GLC EV Set Up Mid-Size Electric SUV Faceoff

The rivals take diverging tacks on range versus performance.

Overview

  • BMW’s first Neue Klasse production model, the iX3 50 xDrive, pairs a 108.7 kWh usable battery with an 800-volt system supporting up to 400 kW DC fast charging and a WLTP range claim up to 805 km.
  • MercedesGLC EV on the MB.EA platform highlights a dual-motor 400 4MATIC with a two-speed rear transmission, front-axle disconnect and a 0–100 km/h time of 4.3 seconds, plus a towing capacity up to 2.4 tonnes.
  • Charging and range claims differ: BMW targets 10–80% in about 21 minutes and roughly 231 miles added in 10 minutes (WLTP), while Mercedes cites up to 330 kW DC, 10–80% in about 24 minutes, up to 303 km added in 10 minutes and a WLTP span of roughly 571–713 km.
  • BMW says iX3 production starts in November 2025 at its new Debrecen, Hungary plant, with Europe deliveries in spring 2026, the U.S. in summer 2026 and a U.S. starting price below $60,000; a right-hand-drive debut in the UK came with pricing from £58,755.
  • Mercedes plans production in Bremen with a global launch targeted for mid‑2026 and India in 2027, and it leans on an AI-forward cabin featuring the 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen with a multi-agent assistant that can tap ChatGPT, Google Gemini or Bing.
