Overview
- BMW Group India posted record 2025 car sales of 18,001 (+14% year-on-year) with 3,753 EVs delivered, lifting EVs to about 21% of car sales and roughly 23% in the fourth quarter.
- Plans for 2026 include launching 10 new cars and 17 product upgrades, with three additional electric models and a major MINI rollout aimed at boosting volumes.
- Local assembly of the iX1 enabled competitive pricing and drove the EV surge, while BMW says roughly half of components are sourced locally and it is evaluating local sourcing of electric motors.
- The company is urging the government to retain the 5% GST on EVs, warning that any increase would hinder adoption in a market where luxury cars account for about 1% of passenger-vehicle sales.
- To support adoption, BMW has installed 12 highway fast chargers and 52 dealer fast chargers and is investing about ₹4 billion to upgrade retail and charging infrastructure.
