BMW Debuts iX3 at CES 2026 With Alexa+ Voice and Neue Klasse Tech

It previews a software-defined platform BMW plans to extend to 40 models by 2027.

Overview

  • BMW became the first automaker to show Amazon’s Alexa+ built into its Intelligent Personal Assistant, with customer rollouts on iX3 and other models running Operating System 9 and X in Germany and the U.S. starting in the second half of 2026.
  • The Alexa+-powered assistant uses large language models to handle natural, multi‑question conversations, link car controls with general knowledge, and continue sessions across devices via Amazon accounts.
  • As the first production Neue Klasse model, the iX3 introduces sixth‑generation eDrive with an 800V architecture and a 108.7 kWh usable battery rated up to 805 km WLTP.
  • Ultra‑fast DC charging peaks at 400 kW for roughly 10–80% in about 21 minutes and up to 372 km added in 10 minutes, while U.S. versions adopt NACS and the vehicle supports bidirectional V2L, V2H and V2G.
  • BMW expanded the in‑car ecosystem with Panoramic iDrive, streaming and gaming that work only when parked, and added advanced driver assistance including an optional hands‑free Highway Assistant up to 130 km/h with glance‑confirmed lane changes.
