Overview

  • At its central executive meeting in Bhopal from August 22–24, the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh adopted resolutions demanding immediate notification of the Code on Wages and the Code on Social Security.
  • The organisation asked the Centre to reconvene the Indian Labour Conference, last held in 2015, to restore tripartite consultation on labour policy.
  • BMS called for phased implementation of the four labour codes with confidence-building among state governments, employers, and workers.
  • It opposed provisions in the Industrial Relations and Occupational Safety codes that it says favour employers, citing the higher 300-worker threshold for layoffs and closures without prior approval.
  • The union also demanded withdrawal of the ICDS facial-recognition system, alleging it has led to harassment of Anganwadi workers during implementation.
