BMRCL Issues DPR Tender for Bengaluru–Tumakuru Metro With Bids Due This Week

The study will test the inter-district metro against suburban rail through a mandated alternatives analysis.

Overview

  • Interested firms must submit bids by November 20 with a ₹4.5 lakh earnest money deposit, and BMRCL plans to open bids on November 21.
  • The selected consultant will have five months from the letter of acceptance to deliver the Detailed Project Report.
  • The proposed 59.6 km extension runs from Madavara (BIEC) to Tumakuru via Nelamangala, Dabaspet and Kyathasandra, with about 25–27 stations spaced closer in urban areas and wider in rural stretches.
  • Capital costs are estimated at roughly ₹20,649–₹20,896 crore, and BMRCL is evaluating financing models including PPP and BOT variants.
  • Public figures have questioned whether metro suits inter-city travel, and the DPR must include an Alternatives Analysis Report comparing modes before a preferred option is identified.
