BMC Sets May 2026 Opening for First GMLR Flyover as TBM Readied and Works Accelerated

Officials have ordered faster clearances to keep tunnelling on track for an early‑2026 start.

  • Approach roads are slated to finish by January 31, 2026 (Dindoshi side) and April 30, 2026 (Film City side), with opening targeted for mid‑May 2026.
  • A Japan‑supplied TBM is being assembled and expected to be ready by January 2026, with tunnel boring to begin in the first half of 2026; a second TBM is due by December 2025.
  • Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani inspected sites and directed teams to expedite permissions, NOCs and land acquisition, as some Mulund‑side works await rehabilitation and plot handover.
  • The Rs 14,000 crore, 12.2‑km corridor plans twin tunnels beneath SGNP with safety systems and cross‑passages every 300 m, targeting tunnel completion in 2028 and full project operations by 2029.
