BMC Sets 15% Citywide Water Cut for Dec. 3–4, With Additional Local Shutdowns

Officials say the short disruptions will strengthen aging mains for better reliability.

Overview

  • From 10 a.m. Dec. 3 to 10 a.m. Dec. 4, the BMC will reduce supply by 15% across 14 wards as it replaces the 2,750 mm Tansa pipeline feeding the Bhandup Water Treatment Plant.
  • Ahead of that, from 10 a.m. Dec. 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 2, work to connect a 2,500 mm line to the Amar Mahal tunnel at Chedda Nagar will affect 11 wards with either low pressure or temporary suspension.
  • The Dec. 3–4 cut covers parts of the Island City and suburbs including A, C, D, G South, G North, H East, H West, K West, P South, P North, R South, R Central, L and S wards.
  • Kandivali East and parts of Borivali will see an 18‑hour shutdown from 1:30 p.m. Dec. 4 to 7:30 a.m. Dec. 5 to tie in new 900 mm mains, affecting areas such as Thakur Village, Samata Nagar, Chikoowadi, Gorai and Janu Pada.
  • The BMC has advised residents in all affected zones to store sufficient water in advance and use supplies judiciously during the scheduled works.
