BMC Rules Ajay Devgn’s Juhu Construction Unauthorised

The civic body said the owners failed to produce permission documents and warned the unauthorised work could be removed at the owners’ cost.

Overview

  • The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation issued a stop-work notice on September 10 that accused the Kapol CHS bungalow of unauthorised additions and alterations using Siporex blocks.
  • The property owners replied on September 15 but the BMC’s K/West ward office said in a speaking order dated October 6 that the reply did not include a copy of permission from the competent authority.
  • Because the owners did not produce the required approvals, the BMC formally rejected their reply and declared the ongoing construction unauthorised in its October 6 order.
  • The stop-work notice warned that any unauthorised structure or materials may be removed at the owner’s risk and cost and that police could be asked to help enforce the order, but the civic order does not state whether physical demolition has been carried out so far.
  • The case highlights how Mumbai’s municipal law lets the BMC halt and remove unauthorised work and signals possible enforcement or legal steps ahead if owners do not produce formal approvals.
