BMC Reissues EOI for 26 Slum Redevelopment Schemes With Sept. 30 Deadline

Officials cite low land potential and dense encroachments as the main reasons many parcels drew little or no developer interest.

Overview

  • The fresh bid call targets parcels that earlier received no bids or only single bids, with the EOI document to be posted on September 15 and submissions due September 30.
  • Most re-invited sites are in M/East ward covering Deonar, Mankhurd and Govandi, where officials say challenging conditions dampened developer appetite.
  • In May, BMC invited EOIs for 64 plots across 11 wards, later putting 17 in abeyance and seeking bids for 47, which drew over 100 bids for about 29 schemes.
  • Eight of those schemes saw only one bidder, and BMC is concurrently scrutinising 93 responsive bids from 25 companies for 21 other schemes.
  • The programme spans roughly 8.37 lakh sq. metres and nearly 49,000 slum structures, with projects to follow DCPR‑2034 Regulation 33(20) and require proven rehabilitation experience.
