BMC Permits Two-Hour Controlled Pigeon Feeding at Four Mumbai Sites

The move is temporary pending an expert panel’s report to the Bombay High Court.

Overview

  • Feeding is allowed daily from 7 to 9 am at Worli Reservoir, a mangrove patch off Lokhandwala Back Road near the Versova STP, the old AiroliMulund check post area on the Link Road, and Gorai Maidan in Borivali West.
  • All 51 traditional kabutarkhanas remain shut as earlier closures stay in effect until further court directions.
  • Permissions apply only if volunteer organisations manage the sites, keep them clean, prevent obstruction, address complaints, and sign undertakings, with ward assistant commissioners designated as nodal officers.
  • The civic body cites public health concerns related to droppings and feathers and will install signage to raise hygiene awareness at the designated zones.
  • The BMC says it received 9,779 citizen submissions on the issue and reports more than 200 penalties for public feeding between July and October, as religious and animal-welfare groups continue to object to restrictions.
