BMC, Panvel Elections Enter Scrutiny After Last-Day Nomination Surge

Verification now starts to narrow crowded fields ahead of the January 2 withdrawal window.

Overview

  • Officials recorded 2,516 nominations for Mumbai’s 227 BMC wards, with 2,122 filed on the final day as scrutiny began at 11 a.m. on December 31.
  • Panvel Municipal Corporation received 400 nominations in total, including 371 on the last day, with Kalamboli, Navade and Kamothe leading the filings.
  • Next steps in the process include withdrawals on January 2 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., symbol allotment and final lists on January 3, voting on January 15 and counting on January 16.
  • Roughly 11,391 nomination forms were distributed across Mumbai, indicating far fewer were ultimately submitted compared with forms taken.
  • M-East recorded the highest number of BMC filings, and officials attributed the late rush to parties finalizing seat-sharing and candidate lists.
