BMC Orders Immediate PAP Rehab, Heavy‑Vehicle Curbs to Speed Andheri–Ghatkopar Flyover

The directive follows delays from encroachments that shifted the target completion to June 2027.

Overview

  • Municipal commissioner Bhushan Gagrani inspected the site on October 9 and directed phased rehabilitation of eligible project-affected persons in coordination with the Slum Rehabilitation Authority.
  • A temporary ban on heavy vehicles along the Andheri–Ghatkopar Link Road was ordered with traffic police coordination, with alternative routes to keep commuters moving.
  • A structural audit of the existing 78-year-old Ghatkopar rail overbridge was mandated, building on earlier IIT-B findings that called for major repairs.
  • MahaRail remains the executing agency with BMC funding support, with the project split into a cable-stayed span over the railway tracks and a bowstring steel span over LBS Road.
  • Civic officials cite roughly 250 affected structures slowing approach-road work, with about 80 cleared so far and the completion target moved from end-2025 to June 2027.
