BMC Launches 'Participate Mumbai' Platform and Signs Samagra Pact

The digital portal will match over 450 civic projects with in-kind corporate, NGO and volunteer support under a Samagra-backed drive to reform municipal services.

Overview

  • The BMC publicly unveiled Participate Mumbai at an 11am event, which was held Tuesday, and presented the platform alongside a comprehensive agreement with Samagra.
  • The portal lists more than 450 civic projects and needs and the BMC says it has already engaged 27 CSR partners, 23 NGOs, 56 implementation partners and over 500 volunteers.
  • Organisations and individuals can offer technology, materials, equipment, services, expertise and volunteers but the BMC will not accept or transfer CSR cash directly through the platform.
  • The Samagra memorandum targets complaint management, emergency response and simplification of citizen and business services to be executed in 'mission mode' while the BMC retains final administrative control and will vet proposals for technical and procedural feasibility.
  • The initiative is at an early implementation stage with departments due to list projects, partners invited to submit proposals, and regular performance reviews planned; if departmental checks succeed the platform could speed service delivery and channel non-monetary resources into local projects.
