BMC Halts Pali Hill Road Concretisation Following Residents' Opposition
Mumbai's civic body pauses work on two Bandra roads after locals cite environmental, safety, and practical concerns.
- The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has temporarily suspended the concretisation of Auxilium Convent Road and Dilip Kumar Lane in Pali Hill, Bandra, after strong objections from residents.
- Locals argued that the roads were already in good condition, with Auxilium Convent Road having been constructed only five years ago.
- Concerns raised included potential damage to fully grown trees, increased dust pollution affecting senior citizens and schoolchildren, and complications for emergency and redevelopment-related vehicle access.
- The Pali Hill Residents Association (PHRA), supported by former corporator Asif Zakaria, mobilized quickly, submitting a formal letter and meeting with BMC officials to present their case.
- BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani stated that decisions on similar cases across Mumbai will be made on a case-by-case basis, considering road conditions and the extent of public opposition.
