BMC Flags Fire-Safety Lapses at NSCI Worli as Club Reports Compliance

The action forms part of citywide fire-safety checks launched after the Goa nightclub blaze.

Overview

  • Mumbai’s civic body issued a formal notice to the National Sports Club of India under Section 5(1) of the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, 2006.
  • Following a December 19 inspection, officials cited inoperational diesel pumps, a basement water curtain not on auto mode, scrap stored in ducts and passages, unsealed cable ducts, hose leakages, and the absence of Form B certification.
  • The BMC directed submission of Form B within seven days and gave 30 days to rectify all lapses, followed by a compliance report.
  • NSCI secretary Viren Shah said the club has corrected the deficiencies and submitted a compliance letter to the BMC.
  • Senior officials said the enforcement is part of ongoing preemptive inspections across eateries, bars and malls that began December 23 after the Goa fire that killed 25 people.
