BMC Fines Caterers ₹10,000 for Dumping Food Waste by Mithi River

Special ward-level squads issued the latest penalty to prevent monsoon drainage blockages by deterring bulk waste dumping.

Overview

  • On the night of July 30–31, The Gaurav Caterers was caught dumping leftover food near the Mithi River in Sakinaka and fined ₹10,000 by the BMC’s L Ward team.
  • The waste was traced back to the caterers’ Khar premises and penalized under the Brihanmumbai Cleanliness and Health Subordinate Regulations, 2006.
  • Since June 12, special ward-level squads have imposed a total of ₹75,000 in fines on eight bulk waste generators, including banks, housing societies and an Imtiaz Line Depot.
  • The intensified enforcement targets unauthorized nighttime dumping of food and construction waste to keep drains clear during Mumbai’s monsoon season.
  • The BMC has supplemented its ward teams with AI-powered monitoring tools and metal nets at key drain inlets to detect and deter illegal disposals.
