BMC Deploys 30 New Mini Compactors, First Additions in 15 Years

The move launches a Rs 4,000 crore, two-year service-contract upgrade to add about 800 higher-capacity, cleaner vehicles including EVs.

Overview

  • Each new mini compactor carries 5 metric tonnes per trip, roughly double the outgoing models, which officials say will cut trips, fuel use and emissions.
  • Durability and hygiene upgrades include a 5 mm Hardox steel floor and a hydraulic rear seal to prevent leaks and extend vehicle life.
  • Compact dimensions and four-seat cabins with separate wet and dry compartments are intended to improve access in dense lanes and working conditions for sanitation staff.
  • The vehicles have been placed across all 25 municipal wards and introduce a uniform white-and-blue livery that will be phased in across the fleet.
  • BMC is using a service-based contract under which agencies supply vehicles and loaders, a model civic officials describe as about 25% more cost-effective than hiring.
