BMC Demolishes Unauthorized Structures, Seals Two Eateries at Kamla Mills

A multi-department drive inspected seven eateries to curb fire risks by enforcing building regulations in Lower Parel’s dense commercial hub.

  • The G/South Ward Fire Compliance Cell of the BMC coordinated a drive on July 31 to inspect and demolish unauthorized structures at Kamla Mills.
  • Civic officials inspected seven outlets including Theobroma, McDonald’s, Shivsagar Hotel, Nano’s Cafe, Starbucks, Bira Taproom and Food by Devika for fire safety and building compliance.
  • The Building and Factory Department dismantled an illegal M.S. compound wall at BKT House and removed sheds and fences erected at Bira Taproom and Food by Devika.
  • The Health Department seized Bira Taproom and Food by Devika for unauthorized use of open spaces in violation of their license conditions.
  • Officials said the enforcement was prompted by three major fire incidents in the precinct over the past five years, most recently in September 2024.
