BMC Clears Nine Unauthorised Shops From Andheri Footpaths

K West Ward officials said the drive removed illegal sheds plus staircases that narrowed sidewalks to improve pedestrian safety and that similar enforcement will continue citywide.

Overview

  • The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's K West Ward carried out a coordinated anti-encroachment drive in Andheri that removed nine unauthorised shops blocking public footpaths.
  • Officials said one shop on Fun Republic Road was demolished and another was seized, while eight stalls and illegal structures were removed from Veera Desai Road.
  • Staff from the Maintenance, Building and Factory, Licensing, and Public Health departments led the clearances under Assistant Commissioner Chakrapani Alle and Deputy Commissioner Dr. Bhagyashree Kapase.
  • Personnel from Amboli Police Station provided security during the operation and specialised equipment was used to dismantle sheds, staircases, and other obstructions.
  • Civic authorities said the cleared stretches have been restored for pedestrians to improve safety and ease movement, and they signalled that more similar drives will be held across Mumbai.
