BMC Clears Kala Ghoda Redevelopment Phase 2 With Plaza, Pedestrian Upgrades and Parking Plan

Tenders will follow remaining clearances, signalling a ₹12 crore start to Phase 2A.

Overview

  • Phase 2 has BMC approval with in-principle clearance from the heritage committee, as Phase 1 nears completion.
  • Five roads are in scope for Phase 2A: Mahatma Gandhi Road, K Dubash Road, Nagindas Road, Chamber of Commerce Lane and Forbes Street.
  • A plaza is planned by converting the stretch outside Rhythm House on K Dubash Road, and the road by Jehangir Art Gallery will be reconfigured as two-way.
  • Pedestrianisation will be managed with retractable bollards to maintain emergency access, while Nagindas Mansion Road will stay open to vehicles.
  • Phase 2 is split into 2A and 2B, with 2B proposing an expanded underground parking facility and a defined palette of basalt and granite finishes with new landscaping.
