Overview
- The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said mechanised teams worked through the night of September 1–2 to restore hygiene at Azad Maidan and nearby corridors.
- Over 400 sanitation workers were on the night shift and about 1,000 were deployed across three shifts for collection, washing and disinfection.
- Skid steer loaders, compactors, suction and jet-spray machines were used to gather waste and wash roads and toilets before transport to Mahalaxmi transfer stations and the Deonar and Kanjurmarg facilities.
- BMC reported removing roughly 101 metric tonnes of mostly inorganic waste such as plastic bottles, food packets and posters, with some hazardous items including paints and batteries.
- On-site services included about 450 toilets with 100 newly added mobile units, around 25 water tankers, a medical post that treated roughly 4,000 people, and a 40-floodlight tower installed by the Mumbai Fire Brigade.
