Overview
- The BMC has started on-ground trenching and foundation work under Package B along a 1.2 km non-CRZ stretch in Goregaon.
- The project secured Stage-1 in-principle clearance from the MoEF&CC to divert 8.24 ha of mangroves under a structured restoration plan.
- Officials will now apply to the Bombay High Court for working permission required to commence construction in CRZ-designated sections.
- Six of the seven Phase II packages lie within coastal regulation zones and await Stage-2 environmental approval before ground-level work can proceed.
- Once finished, the nearly 20 km Versova–Bhayandar corridor is designed to cut travel time to 15–20 minutes and lower carbon emissions by about 55%.
