BMC Allows Two-Hour Pigeon Feeding at Four Designated Mumbai Sites

Existing kabutarkhanas stay closed pending a court-ordered health review.

Overview

  • The permissions are explicitly interim until an expert committee reports on health risks and the Bombay High Court issues final orders.
  • Feeding is limited to 7–9 am daily at Worli Reservoir, a mangrove patch off Lokhandwala Back Road near the Versova STP, the creekside area by the old AiroliMulund check post, and Gorai Maidan in Borivali West.
  • Only grains may be offered during the two-hour window, with feeding outside the set hours or the use of other food items prohibited.
  • Volunteer organisations must manage the sites, maintain cleanliness, prevent obstruction to pedestrians and vehicles, address complaints, and file undertakings, with ward assistant municipal commissioners acting as nodal officers and health-awareness signboards installed.
  • All 51 kabutarkhanas remain shut under earlier orders as the BMC cites 9,779 public submissions on the issue and continues enforcement against violations.
