Bluesky Introduces Native Video Support to Compete with X and Threads

The decentralized social network now allows users to upload and share videos up to 60 seconds long, enhancing its feature set against major rivals.

Two iphones side by side. Close ups of the content on them. Both have the Bluesky social networking app on them and both show a video about a gig.
Video has finally come to X competitor Bluesky.

Overview

  • Bluesky users can now upload videos directly to the platform, with each video capped at 60 seconds in length.
  • The new feature supports .mp4, .mpeg, .webm, and .mov file types and allows up to 25 video uploads or 10GB of video per day.
  • Videos will autoplay by default, but users can disable this feature in the settings; subtitles and content labels can also be added.
  • To combat spam and abuse, users must verify their email addresses before uploading videos, and all videos will be scanned for inappropriate content by Hive and Thorn.
  • The video feature rollout is gradual to ensure stability, following a recent surge in Bluesky's user base, partly due to X's ban in Brazil.
