Blues Shift Milan Lucic to AHL PTO With Springfield After Ending NHL Tryout

Springfield gives the 37-year-old his first AHL platform to show he is ready for an NHL return.

Overview

  • St. Louis released Lucic from his NHL professional tryout but kept him in the organization, sending him to the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds on a PTO announced Nov. 4.
  • The Thunderbirds said he will practice this week in Springfield, and he was introduced to reporters Wednesday as he begins the on-ice evaluation phase.
  • Lucic said the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program helped him and his family, offering thanks for the support as he works back toward the NHL.
  • He appeared in four Blues preseason games with a goal and an assist before a lower-body injury, and the team used short 10-day PTO extensions during his rehab under the updated CBA.
  • If he plays for Springfield, it will be the first AHL action of his 17-year pro career; he last played NHL games in October 2023 and owns 1,177 games, 233 goals and a 2011 Stanley Cup.
